Glaciers and Icebergs

This is an ongoing series, motivated by my fascination for the structure of glaciers, and inspired by the extreme melting of these incredible ancient natural wonders. Using mostly discarded materials in my work, I create tapestries made of plastic foil and other recycled material. For this series, I wanted to raise awareness for the plight of our world’s glaciers, while also making art out of recyclable materials. Thus, for me, the material used for making my tapestries is of great importance. For my Majestic Glacier, I used transparent, white, and blue plastic foils, which reflect light and emphasize shadows from the surrounding environment; the result is a flickering and "wet" glacier. I prepared the plastic materials for weaving by straightening and flattening the foils - all cut into appropriately sized pieces.
